6 Best Restaurants in Positano: Culinary Gems and Must-Try Dishes

Staying in Positano, Italy, is only complete once you've sampled the culinary dishes at as many restaurants as possible during your vacation. This charming village on the Amalfi Coast offers dining experiences unlike any other, with breathtaking views and a plethora of delectable options. We found it nearly impossible to fit every stop into a 4-day itinerary! I'm thrilled to share my dining experiences and highlight the best restaurants to eat at in Positano, Italy.

Picking the best restaurant in Positano to kick off your vacation is fundamental to bouncing back from travel fatigue. Let me share our delightful experience at Ristorante Bruno, the ultimate beginning to the local flavors after a long day of travels.

1. RISTORANTE BRUNO, $$$

Best pasta, terrace dining, ocean views

Our first meal in Positano was at Ristorante Bruno, and it set the bar high. Perched on a terrace that offers breathtaking views of Positano and the ocean, this spot serves up pasta and seafood that will make your taste buds sing.

We started with an appetizer of cherry tomatoes and buffalo mozzarella cheese. The freshness of the produce, especially those tomatoes, was incredible, giving me an instant burst of energy. It was the perfect way to shake off the travel fatigue.

For the main course, we indulged in pasta with clams, zucchini, and cheese and simple yet flavorful pasta tossed in olive oil, garlic, and chili. This dish was hands down the best we had in Positano. We also tried the fillet fish with tomato sauce and a side of veggies—every bite was fantastic.

Though we didn't get the chance this time, I am determined to eat at Ristorante Bruno again. I know it will be the first place we return to on our next visit.

2. Terrazza celè, $$$

Perched elegantly above the sparkling waters of the Amalfi Coast, Terrazza Celé in Positano offers a romantic and sophisticated dining experience. The terrace is a perfect spot to watch the sun dip below the horizon, casting a stunning glow over the sea.

I highly recommend the spaghetti with tomato water, bottarga, and smoked mackerel—a perfect blend of flavors that captures the essence of the sea. The chef’s amuse-bouche was a delightful surprise, setting the tone for an unforgettable meal. Whether celebrating a special occasion or simply enjoying the view, Terrazza Cele promises a truly memorable evening.

3. LA ZAGARA, $$

Pastries, terrace dining, iconic views

Next on our culinary journey was La Zagara, a casual pizza and pasta restaurant that quickly became one of our favorite spots in Positano. With an enchanting terrace and a vine-covered pergola, it was the best place to start our mornings with a cup of coffee.

We couldn't get enough of their salami paninis—so much so that we had them twice during our stay. These delicious paninis were ideal for a quick bite before heading to the beach or setting off on a boat tour.

La Zagara also boasts a fantastic bakery. I especially enjoyed the fruit tart and limoncello. Each bite was a sweet reminder of why Positano's foodie scene is so beloved.

4. CHEZ BLACK $$ - $$$

Beach views, lively, best seafood

Our travels in Positano led us to Chez Black, a maritime-themed trattoria known for its delectable seafood dishes and beachfront terrace. Situated near the beach and ferry boats, we loved soaking up the sun and enjoying the vibrant atmosphere of the city.

As we settled in, we couldn't resist trying their famous pizzas. The terrace provided an excellent vantage point for people-watching, adding to the lively ambiance of the restaurant.

We also indulged in a Pizza Capricciosa, topped with tomatoes, mozzarella, ham, artichokes, and mushrooms—a flavorful combination that satisfied our cravings. And of course, no visit to Chez Black would be complete without trying their Linguini with pesto sauce, an iconic dish.

5. LA SCOGLIERA BEACH CLUB, $$$

Best pasta, beachfront

At La Scogliera Beach Club, my second favorite pasta spot, simplicity and satisfaction reign supreme. Amidst the backdrop of Positano's coast, this beachfront club offers a delightful escape where the flavors are as refreshing as the sea.

My top dish at La Scogliera was a pasta dish whose name eludes me, but its taste lingers in my memory. It featured a harmonious blend of cherry tomatoes, olive oil, and pepper—proof that sometimes, the simplest ingredients create the most memorable meals.

While I was roaming into pasta perfection, my husband, Matt, sought comfort in the familiar – a classic burger paired with a delicious Peroni. It was a taste of home amidst the siren call of pasta and mozzarella.

The service at La Scogliera was impeccable – our glasses were never empty. And thanks to a serendipitous conversation with a fellow guest, we discovered the delightful Hugo Spritz. It’s a newfound favorite that accompanied us throughout the rest of our Italian adventures.

6. RISTORANTE L'ANCORA, $$$

Hidden gem, village views, ocean views

Amidst the bustling scene of popular restaurants, we stumbled upon Ristorante L'Ancora, a hidden gem tucked away in Positano. Though many of the sought-after spots were fully booked, our decision to dine at L'Ancora proved to be serendipitous.

The scenery from L'Ancora was breathtaking. As we indulged in our meal, we were treated to glimpses of Positano's iconic village and ocean views, adding to the charm of our dining experience.

We started by ordering the Insalata Caprese, which while decent, didn't quite match up to the flavors we had encountered elsewhere. However, the Prosciutto Crudo with Buffalo mozzarella stole the show. Each ingredient tasted remarkably fresh.

For our main course, we enjoyed Tagliatelle alla Bolognese, which was bursting with flavor and reminiscent of home-cooked comfort. It was a satisfying end to our meal at this delightful establishment.
