How We Quickly Made Our House Feel Homey After the Move
Decorating your first house is very exciting, yet intimidating at the same time. From deciding on an interior design style to shopping for furniture, transforming a blank canvas into a home can be challenging.
My fiancé, Matt, and I recently purchased our first property in Las Vegas in late September. Of course, like other homeowners, we wanted to make it our own instantly.
Who doesn't want their new place to be as comfortable as possible, as quickly as possible? After all, you've worked very hard to be able to have your very own humble abode. You should be able to enjoy it, style it, and love it!
But we knew fixing up every corner would take time to complete, so we focused on the house's high-traffic areas. Thanks to the interior gods from Pinterest and Dillard's at Fashion Show, we've managed to create an inviting space in just a few short weeks.
How?!
Read on and discover how we quickly made our house feel homey after the move. There's also a list of small but impactful home decor items I got from my go-to shopping destination, Fashion Show Las Vegas.
Create an oasis
Unpacking is overwhelming, to say the least. Matt and I thought it was essential to have a space to retreat to after going through countless boxes. We decided to focus on the central area of the house: our living room.
We painted the walls, set up the entertainment media, incorporated wood furniture, and added some simple, finishing touches. Having a calm and clean space has truly allowed us to enjoy our new home amid all the chaos.
Throw some soft fabrics and textures
Nothing says cozy quite like plush blankets and textured pillows. Laying them on the couch or chairs encourages a person to relax and feel at home. Plus, they tie the room together!
Seriously though, adding these gorgeous pillows makes me feel like we've made some significant interior progress on the house! (It's all about the small wins – right? Lol)
I also tossed in a Noble Excellence Arabian Spice throw, and it creates the comfiest aesthetic. The color is vibrant and beautiful, and it reminded me of fall color leaves and family gatherings. Oh, and the heavenly soft fabric just makes you want to cuddle up.
Spruce up the front porch
Another area that can quickly make a house feel homier is an inviting front porch or entryway. With just a few simple accents like a welcoming mat and an outdoor rug, I was able to design a charming little area.
If you want to take it to the next level, put some gorgeous lanterns like these beautiful Southern Living wooden ones I also found at Dillard’s. They add just the right amount of coziness to your exterior living space.
Add comforting scents
Scented candles have also been helping us relax after a long day of work. There's just something about a delicious, Vanilla Bourbon candle that immediately takes away all of our worries. They produce a peaceful atmosphere plus give an extra bit of light, which adds a calming effect to any room.
Warm up the dining area
Accessorizing the dining area is also a quick way to give your space a homey feel. Some of my favorite home essentials are stylish, white marble wood coasters, wooden cheese boards, and round abaca placemats. All of which can be found at Fashion Show Las Vegas.
Matt and I will be eating at our breakfast bar for a while. Our dining table was yet again delayed, so we might as well dine somewhere filled with warm and beautiful kitchen decor.
Sprinkle some greenery
Last but not least, the secret to making a house homier is incorporating plants. Almost any type of room can be well decorated with house plants. More importantly, they purify the air and rid homes of toxins.
We still have a LOT of work to do, but I'm glad we could make our new space super homey in short order.
